Hadassah New Cardiac Care Centre

Our Hadassah Mount Scopus campus provides medical care for the diverse large population of northern Jerusalem and the many surrounding communities. Before our new Cardiac Centre was built at Mount Scopus, most acute patients required transfer to Hadassah Ein Kerem, which delayed treatment for critical and unstable patients.

The New Critical Cardiac Care Centre has already greatly shortened the time needed for heart attack victims to receive life-saving care and significantly improved acute cardiac care for all residents of Jerusalem – Jews and Arabs alike.

It has also resulted in increased referrals of less acute cardiac patients and cardiac admissions to Hadassah Mount Scopus. Admissions are now increasing three-fold since the centre’s opening.

Both Hadassah Ein Kerem and our Mount Scopus campus are continuing to be upgraded with major improvements enabling the provision of first class medical care which Hadassah is famous for.

Hadassah was the first to introduce the concept of beginning treatment for a heart attack while the patient is in the ambulance. Clot-busting medication is given, and the patient’s vitals and an ECG are sent to the Cardiac Centre. The patient is brought straight to the Catheterisation Lab (bypassing the ER), where angioplasty and stent implantation to open the artery can be done immediately without invasive surgery. In this way damage to the heart muscle is minimised and mortality rates have dropped to 2.5% at Hadassah – the lowest in the world!

Our experts use new imaging in real time for maximum accuracy. They can switch from catheterisation to open heart surgery if necessary, without moving the patient and losing valuable time. The dual-camera system is among the first installed in the world. There are inner-aortal cameras and numerous other technological advances that were considered science-fiction not long ago.
