The opening of Hadassah’s new Rehabilitation Centre at Mt. Scopus was expedited in January 2024, and sees patients with a variety of diagnoses: after a stroke, fracture, car accident, or from injury in an attack. Construction began in 2019 to replace Hadassah’s small and outdated unit; the only acute rehabilitation centre serving the entire Jerusalem area. When the war began, a dedicated department in the centre was created to treat casualties who arrived en masse, often after undergoing multiple, complex surgeries.
Hadassah UK is sponsoring the creation of a unique project called the “Technological Incubator Hub Facility” within the Rehabilitation Centre for innovative research and development of new ways to treat patients’ rehabilitation needs, including using smart phones and apps. The Incubator will facilitate and advance research, data collection and analysis within the department to evaluate and modify intervention programmes for patients in collaboration with technological companies connected to the field of rehabilitation.
Hadassah Ein Kerem is creating a sheltered surgical pavilion to prepare for a potential surge in critically injured patients. A further six operating rooms will join the existing rooms in The Sarah Wetsman Davidson Hospital Tower. These state-of-the-art operating rooms will be fully equipped to perform complex, life-saving surgery embracing the newest protocols and technologies — such as high-precision advanced robotics, computer-assisted surgery, and intraoperative radiotherapy. Emergency surgeries can continue, even during an attack.
Hadassah has achieved enormous success in stem cell clinical trials, including with neurodegenerative diseases like Multiple Sclerosis & ALS, cancer, heart disease, macular degeneration, diabetes and many others. With collaborative research with our UK partners, Hadassah doctors will be able to further ground-breaking research from “bench to bedside” that will both improve patient care and accelerate the discovery process both in Israel and abroad.
Hadassah UK’s policy of investing in areas to stimulate Research & Development brings specialist researchers and experts together to look at new ways of treating people with complex illnesses. Within the Wohl Institute is Hadassah’s revolutionary new Organoid Centre, a first of its kind in Israel. Organoids are one of the most significant scientific advances in medical research, allowing scientists to study diseases, understand their mechanisms, and develop and test potential new treatments.
The Hadassah School for Sick Children serves hospitalised children and young adults, and creates new training template programmes tailored to their unique educational and medical needs. Our young patients learn about their disease and the medical procedures they will need, to help them understand their treatment in an interactive and informative way. Young patients benefit with help to cope with the stress and uncertainty of illness, pain, injury and treatment.
