As civilian casualties in Israel soared following Hamas’s devastating October 7 assault and tsunami of patients flooded the country’s medical system in the months that followed, it was clear that Hadassah’s new rehabilitation facility in Jerusalem would become central to the war effort to receive and treat as many of the injured as possible.
In response to the increased need in rehabilitation services, Hadassah is building the new Gandel Rehabilitation Centre to service the needs of our current 1.2m population. Construction was expedited and the centre was partially opened in January 2024 to care for the war-wounded soldiers and civilians.
When complete, it will increase the number of patients the hospital can treat by about 250 percent. The nearly 30,000 m2 centre will offer 140 beds, allowing Hadassah to serve 10,000 patients annually, and provide vital services with a multi-disciplinary approach of doctors, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, nurses, psychologists and social workers. All cooperate to create a patient tailored programme centred on returning to an optimal active lifestyle.
Providing world-class rehabilitation care for the severely injured will significantly improve their prospects of recovery, help them to regain their quality of life – and enable Hadassah’s patients to return to their families with maximum functionality and independence, to enjoy life and have a brighter future.
The Gandel rehabilitation Centre in Jerusalem will treat a vast variety of people, conditions and injuries, including rehabilitation for stroke, cancer, neurodevelopment, sports injuries as well as rehabilitation for amputees, driving and walking restoration, communication and language services.
Hadassah Hospital is not only saving lives but rebuilding them. Our specialised care at the newly opened centre helps Israel’s wounded heroes along the arduous road from crippling injury to renewed mobility, functionality, and independence.
